Portfolio
Welcome to my portfolio! It’s lovely to meet you. I’m Aviraj Newatia - but I go by Avi.
This is me!
A self-driven, persistent computer scientist aiming to build controllable and autonomous machine intelligence. My work focuses on machine alignment and applying these techniques to accelerating the human race through scientific discovery. This is backed by my academic background, the world class researchers that I’ve had the invaluable opportunity to work with and under in the fields of healthcare, virology, and the performing arts, and the ever pushing limits of my perseverance.
I’m currently an undergraduate student at the University of Toronto, studying Computer Science and Mathematics, and a researcher in Dr. Rahul Krishnan’s group at the Vector Institute working on Machine Unlearning. I’ve also recently joined the Middleware Systems Research Group (MSRG) working with Dr. Hans-Arno Jacobsen and Dr. Grier Jones working on optimization algorithms for quantum circuit design. My programming mother tongue is C, and my preferred language is C++. I am also one of two undergraduate members of the Department of Computer Science’s Undergraduate Affairs Committee, the Director of Academic Affairs at the Computer Science Student Union, and a member of the University College Dragonboat Team.
I’m passionate about machine learning, autonomous systems, and simulation. I’m also a huge fan of programming language design, systems development, and compiler design.
I’m currently curating/looking for a supervisor for a PhD in Computer Science or Robotics or for full time roles for a start after May 2025. If you’re interested in my work, feel free to reach out to me at projectavi.work@gmail.com.
