Data Catalogue Research Assistant (Engineer)

Data Catalogue Engineer, September 2022 - December 2022

Super CDMS, SNOLAB, Prof. Miriam Diamond, University of Toronto, Toronto, Canada

Description:

I worked under Prof. Miriam Diamond on running tests, diagnosing errors, and fixing bugs in the data cataloguing software for the Super Cryogenic Dark Matter Search (Super CDMS) experiment at SNOLAB. This project spanned multiple universities and research groups, and the data catalogue was a critical component of the experiment’s success.

In this position, I created more than 5 test suites in JMeter to evaluate server performance and identify potential issues in the client-server pipeline. This was done using the Docker environment and detected bugs which were subsequently ticketed and fixed.

As part of the tests I ran, I discovered more than 10 significant bottlenecks and inefficiencies in the transmission pipeline which when fixed, improved data transmission and HTTP request speeds from 18 seconds to 0.8 seconds.
